Mon Laferte Celebrates Latin Grammy Nominations With Acoustic Session in L.A.
"When I was little, my family would make me sing at family parties in front of my aunts and uncles and I'd get so nervous. Today, I feel like I'm singing in front of them again, although you guys are better-looking, but still feeling very nervous," joked Mon Laferte during her intimate acoustic session in L.A.'s exclusive SoHo House on Monday.
The Chilean singer/songwriter, dressed in a navy pinup-girl dress with colorful flowers in her hair, serenaded a small group of people -- mainly industry folks, including Grammy and Latin Grammy-winning producer Sebastian Krys and Mexican singer/actor Sergio Arau -- with her powerful lyrics and unique take on jazz-cabaret inspired tunes.
The set list for her hourlong show at SoHo included tracks like "El diablo," "Bonita," "Orgasmo para dos" and "Si tú me quisieras," all from her Latin Grammy-nominated album Mon Laferte (Vol. 1).
"I recorded this album in my house. Actually, I had no power at that time because I didn't have money to pay the bill so what I did was take a bunch of extensions and connect to them to a power source outside my house so I could record it. It's very special to get recognized for this LP."
She's not only nominated for best alternative music album, Mon is also up for best new artist along with up-and-coming musicians including Esteman, Morat, iLe, Joss Favela, among others.
Mon Laferte will embark on her first-ever U.S. tour on Nov. 6 making stops in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and many more. The complete tour dates here.
