Prince Royce's 'La Carretera' Nabs No. 1 on Latin Airplay Chart
Bachata star Prince Royce earns his 10th No. 1 on the Latin Airplay chart (dated Sept. 24) as “La Carretera” steps 2-1 with a 12 percent rise in audience (to 15.7 million audience impressions in the week ending Sept. 11, according to Nielsen Music).
Since notching his first chart-topper on the March 12, 2011 chart with “Corazon Sin Cara” (two weeks at No. 1), only one other act has more crowning hits: Romeo Santos, with 11 in that time span. Elsewhere, “Carretera” reaches a new peak on Hot Latin Songs jumping 14-8 in its 16th frame.
The track previews Royce’s forthcoming Spanish-language album, due later this year. It will be his first Spanish album since Soy El Mismo was released in 2013 and will follow his debut English-language effort, Double Vision (2015).
Safari Soars: Also on Hot Latin Songs, J Balvin’s “Safari” takes Streaming Gainer honors as the track flies 26-12 with a 137 percent hike in streams (to 1.1 million in the week ending Sept. 8). The song, which features Pharrell Williams, BIA and Sky, saw its music video released to YouTube on Sept. 2. The clip premiered on Aug. 12 exclusively with Apple Music and iTunes.
Increased airplay also powers the climb. “Safari” reaches a new peak on the Latin Rhythm Airplay chart, rising 9-6 (up 25 percent to 8.3 million audience impressions).
While the song became Balvin’s ninth chart entry when it debuted four weeks ago, it’s the second entry for Pharrell Williams. In 2009 he reached No. 28 as a featured act (singing in Spanish) on Pitbull’s “Blanco”.
‘Narcos’’ ‘Tuyo’ Arrives: Rodrigo Amarante’s “Tuyo” (from the Netflix series Narcos) debuts at No. 40 on Hot Latin Songs, supported by 398,000 U.S. streams, up 269 percent from the previous week. With a 635 percent increase in digital downloads (to over 2,000), it returns to the Latin Digital Songs chart at No. 5 -- a new peak position after spending 12 weeks on the chart in 2015.
Calibre 50 Hits No. 1: Calibre 50 tallies its seventh No. 1 on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart, as “Amor Del Bueno” steps 2-1, with 10.1 million audience impressions (up 6 percent). The single previews forthcoming set, Desde El Rancho, due Sept. 23.
