For No Manches Frida producer and star Martha Higareda, connecting with a millennial audience was priority when planning the soundtrack for the latest Pantelion Films comedy. "Music was very important because of the generation that is portrayed in the film. The story is basically about high-school students rebelling against their teachers and we needed to make sure that the music we picked appealed to that generation in real life"

To do that, Higareda tapped her superstar friends like Reik to create original music for the film and also personally reached out to some of the most relevant Latin musicians like Maluma, Sin Bandera, Jesse & Joy, Pablo AlboránJulieta Venegas, Ozomatli, Matisse, among others, to ask them for permission to use some of their songs on the soundtrack.

"I've always been a super fan of Reik and I've worked with them before, so we asked them to write a song exclusively for the film and they wrote "We Only Have Tonight." So, after getting Reik and listening to their amazing track, I knew we needed to get other artists that are on their same level. Luckily, I've become friends with these amazing and talented artists, so I felt comfortable calling them up personally," Higareda tells Billboard.

The Mexican actress also felt comfortable enough to let Reik "do their thing" without overseeing the original track they were producing/writing for the movie. "All we were asking was 'when are you going to have it ready?' But we never thought of questioning the lyrics they were coming up with. When we listened to the final product, we didn't change a thing. We fell in love with it.

"We Only Have Tonight," a bilingual upbeat track that is also included in the trio's latest album Des/Amor, was written by Reik member Julio. "We started working on ideas back in Mexico. Sound-wise, we obviously wanted upbeat tracks," says Julio. "What I got from the film was these kids who are struggling, but there is a happy ending. The tune is very simple but it's an uplifting and feel-good song."

Reik also recorded a music video for the track which includes scenes from No Manches Frida, out in theaters this Friday (Sept. 2). Watch it below:
