Juan Gabriel Is the Ultimate Showman at L.A. Concert
After watching Juan Gabriel give it his all during his concert at Los Angeles Forum Friday night (Aug. 26), it's safe to say that the 66-year-old singer is the ultimate showman -- and that his MeXXIco Es Todo Tour is a bucket list-worthy show.
Accompanied by a full mariachi band, an orchestra and a troupe of 20-plus dancers, the Mexican crooner serenaded his fans at The Forum for two hours straight. The high energy show kicked off in full force with a patriotic performance that screamed Mexican pride with follkloricos and breathtaking images of Mexico playing on the screens. Then, "El Divo de Juarez" appeared on the 360-stage wearing a black suit with a royal blue silk shirt underneath that matched the color of his mariachi.
Gabriel walked the runway that led to the square stage where his band was spread out and also where four thrones were stationed for his majesty. He didn't waste any minute of the night and started off with some of his classics, including "Por qué me haces llorar?" "Así fue," "Inocente pobre amigo" and "Costumbres." The latter included an homage to the late Spanish singer Rocio Durcal, whose photo appeared on the screen while Gabriel sang his track, made popular by Durcal.
Although we can agree that Gabriel's music is timeless, the chart-topping artist proved that he has caught up with the latest 21st century (as his tour title suggests MeXXIco) music trends when he invited Colombian reggaeton duo Zona Prieta to join him onstage and perform "No tengo dinero." Their take on the popular song even got JuanGa to show off some of his reggaeton moves.
Another surprise performance included that of pop rock band Jerok who jumped onstage to sing "Yo no vivo por vivir." Followed by the Creedence Clearwater Revival Spanish tribute track "Gracias al sol."
Gabriel ended the spectacular with his iconic song "El noa noa" getting the entire audience on their feet and dancing along with him and his dancers. The crowd was left with a beautiful and positive message on the screen that read, "Congratulations to all the people that are proud to be who they are."
