Alejandro Fernández Launches Campaign With A Mariachi Flash Mob: Watch

Alejandro Fernández is using the power of social media to spread mariachi music to the world. The "Me dediqué a perderte" singer launched a campaign titled "La música rompe fronteras (Music breaks down borders)" to educate about Mexican folklore -- in particular, its traditional mariachi music.

"So proud of our culture, of our folklore and how music really does break borders. I want to share this with the world," he tweeted. 

The campaign is also being used to promote the 23rd anniversary of the annual Encuentro Internacional del Mariachi y Charrería -- art, music and cultural festival -- taking place in Guadalajara from Aug. 26 to Sept. 4. 

The campaign kicked off with a mariachi flash mob taking over La Plaza Mayor in Madrid with 11 members of the Mariachi Real de México joining 23 musicians from the Film Symphony Orchestra. Watch the unique spectacle below:
