Brazilian musical icons Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil and Rio baile funk artist/pop star Anitta will perform at the opening ceremony for the Rio Olympics.

The two pillars of contemporary Brazilian music and the new sensation are the first performers to be revealed by the Rio 2016 organization, according to Globo and other Brazilian news outlets. The Aug. 5 globally televised ceremony will be a three-hour extravaganza.

Both Veloso and Gil -- who is Brazil’s former minister of culture as well as one of the country’s most esteemed musical artists -- are also part of a group of “thinkers, artists and intellectuals” who have served as advisors to the producers of the ceremony.

“We want to have the biggest party there has ever been in this country,” Daniela Thomas, the Artistic Director of the event together with Fernando Meirelles, said in a video posted on the Rio Olympics site.

She added that the opening ceremony would be a showcase for “the best of Brazilian music; not the songs from the radio, but truly the best.”

The video for Anitta’s Olympic-appropriate 2013 hit single “Show das Poderosas” (“Show of the Powerful”) has over 120 million views on YouTube. The Warner Music Brasil artist’s latest, “Bang,” is a more blatant bid for the kind of international exposure that will be aided by the Rio ceremony performance.
