After decades of friendship, Alejandro Sanz and Marc Anthony have recorded a song together. “Deja que te bese” (Let Me Kiss You) is a catchy mix of salsa and flamenco, danceable but nostalgic, with a tinge of sadness for the summer that will soon end.

“It’s a very commercial song, but it also has the touch of rumba flamenca,” says Sanz, speaking exclusively with Billboard from Spain. “It’s a good summer companion, but in the fall, it can work as a blanket to warm our souls. We’ve really taken care of the lyrics, it’s very nostalgic -- although there’s nothing wrong with dancing once in a while,” adds the multi-Grammy winner, known for his more cerebral songs.

“Deja que te bese” was a long time coming. “We’ve been talking about doing something for 20 years,” Sanz says. “Each time we got together to drink some wine, we came up with 14 ideas. Nothing jelled, but last time we spoke about it, he said to me: ‘I already sent you a song I really liked!’ So I said, 'Send it over again!'”

The track was by Venezuelan singer/songwriter Oscarcito. “I liked it a lot,” Sanz says. “I thought the chorus was very direct, very honest and very linked to flamenco.”

Sanz rarely works with other writers on his own recordings, but this time, he added verses and lyrics and also worked in the studio with flamenco guitarist Diego Amador for that flamenco touch.

“Deja que te bese” is not planned as part of an album but will be released as a single July 15.

In Spain, the track will also be released as a CD single with a bonus for fans.

In the meantime, Sanz is in the midst of his Spanish tour, with 13 more dates still to come in the summer and plans to tour Mexico and the U.S. in the fall.

Sanz, who parted ways with his longtime manager Rosa Lagarrigue in June, says he has yet to sign with new management. “I don't know if I’ll sign with anyone right now. I’m in the process of creating a team. But this thing of marrying someone else is a bit uphill right now.”

However, he says, his relationship with Anthony’s entertainment company, Magnus, is “marvelous and I’d love to work with them. We’re looking at doing several projects together.”
