J Balvin's 'Energia' Bows at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums
J Balvin debuts at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart (dated July 16) as Energia, his latest studio set and first No. 1 on the ranking, starts with 7,000 copies sold in the week ending June 30, according to Nielsen Music. On the all-genre, consumption-based Billboard 200, Energia enters at No. 38 with 12,000 equivalent album units. In his lone prior appearance on Top Latin Albums, Balvin reached No. 10 with La Familia in October 2014.
Energia's arrival marks the third-best sales start on the Top Latin Albums chart in 2016, following Juan Gabriel's Los Duo 2 (9,000 copies sold, reflected on the Jan. 2 chart) and Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizarraga's Que Bendicion (8,000, Feb. 27).
Upon the new album's arrival, Balvin's current single "Bobo" rebounds 3-2 on the Hot Latin Songs chart. A 4 percent increase in U.S. streams for the week, to 2 million, helps spark the climb, along with a 4 percent rise at radio to 16.2 million audience impressions. "Bobo" previously spent one week atop the list (dated July 2).
Meanwhile, the set's lead single, "Ginza," spends a 50th week on Hot Latin Songs, charting for a second week at No. 7. The song reigned for 22 weeks (all consecutively) between October and March, when it became the longest-running Hot Latin Songs No. 1 for an unaccompanied act (i.e., a song without an additional or featured artist).
Also, earning top Streaming Gainer honors, Energia album track "Safari," featuring Pharrell Williams, BIA and Sky, rises 29-28 in its second week on Hot Latin Songs. The cut, which has yet to be worked as an officially promoted radio single, debuted atop the July 9 Latin Rhythm Digital Songs chart; it dips to No. 2, selling 4,000 downloads, down from its 6,000-unit debut. Three more songs from the album score entries on Latin Rhythm Digital Songs: "Acercate," featuring Yandel, bows at No. 12, while "Pierde Los Modales," featuring Daddy Yankee, arrives at No. 20, each with 1,000 downloads sold. "Snapchat," a social platform on which Balvin is very active, bows at No. 24 with just under 1,000 sold.
Balvin concurrently debuts on the Billboard Artist 100, a ranking of the week's most popular artists across all genres, at No. 78.
Toby Love Tops Tropical Albums: Puerto Rican artist Toby Love earns his first No. 1 on Tropical Albums as Bachata Nation begins atop the chart with 1,000 copies sold. Love last appeared on the tally in 2013 when Amor Total debuted and peaked at No. 7. Bachata Nation is Love's fourth album to reach the chart.
The new album's "No Le Eches La Culpa" soars 18-10 on the Tropical Songs airplay chart, becoming Love's ninth track to scale the top 10. Notably, it's the fifth song from the newly-released Bachata Nation to score a top 10 peak on the chart, dating back to January 2014 when "Hey" spent one week at No. 1. "El Aire Que Respiro" followed, peaking at No. 8 (Oct. 11, 2014); the set then yielded two more one-week No. 1s: "Never Looking Back," featuring French Montana (April 18, 2015), and "Vestida de Blanco" (Oct. 31, 2015). As Love had not released an album since Amor Total three years ago, every single he'd released in between appears on the new LP.
