"Dreams do come true," yelled Carla Morrison as she stepped off the Outdoor Theatre stage, making her debut at Coachella on Friday.

It was an emotional roller coaster for the Baja California-born singer-songwriter, who called the experience her ultimate dream coming true.

"I was pretty nervous, excited and happy that it was happening," Morrison told Billboard following her emotional performance. "Coachella is something that has been in my life for so long. I mean, I'm from Baja California so our thing was to save money to be able to come. But I could never make it out here cause I had to work. So to be performing here is just amazing."

Recalling a conversation she had with her manager before jumping onstage, Morrison couldn't hold back her tears: "This morning, my manager reminded me of the two I things I asked him when I started my career. I told him that the only two things I wanted was to be able to make a living out of this so I can be able to pay my rent and, second, I really want to play at Coachella -- and here I am. I had totally forgotten about that."

Singing tracks like "Azúcar Morena," "Déjenme Llorar" and "Vez Primera," the two-time Latin Grammy winner showed off her powerful vocals that have made her one of the most original voices in Latin alternative music.

"To those who haven't heard my music, I'm Carla Morrison and I'm from Mexico," she said during her performance. "It's important for people to know where I come from. Of course, we're citizens of the world but it's good to know that there are so many talented artists in Mexico, especially women! And I wanted people to know that."

After wrapping up her set, she was getting on a plane to Mexico to perform at another music festival Pa'l Norte in Monterrey, Nuevo León. "I wish I could stay and get to enjoy other artists. I really wanted to see Ibeyi, Ellie Goulding and Guns N' Roses."
