Mexican regional act El Dasa is moving from stage to television sets to star on the first scripted series for NBC Universo, titled El Vato.

El Vato is a 10-episode story/drama, produced by Endemol Shine Latino and Boomdog, based on El Dasa’s real life story. It follows his path to be a singer as he navigates life in Los Angeles after landing a once-in-a-lifetime record deal.

El Dasa Tops Regional Mexican Albums Chart

El Dasa (real name Dasahev Loepz Saavedra) was discovered by Mexican icon Vicente Fernández in Los Angeles, when El Dasa was working as a driver and had to pick up the famous star. Seizing the opportunity,  El Dasa "auditioned" for Fernandez in the car, and Fernandez invited him to sing a duet with him at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles in 2011. Since then, El Dasa has toured and shared the stage with major Regional Mexican bands including La Banda el Recodo, La Arrolladora Banda el Limón, El Coyote y Su Banda, among many others.

“We are excited to offer our growing audience, including our loyal regional Mexican music fans, fresh and vibrant programming,” Bilai Joa Silar, SVP of programming and production at NBC Universo, said in a press statement. “This series promises to showcase El Dasa’s versatility as an artist and his fans can expect to fall in love with his character El Vato, and his entourage, as they embark on their journey to stardom,” he added.
