West One Music Group Expands to the U.S., Launches Latin American Label

Agency opens offices in New York & Los Angeles.

Independent music agency West One Music Group, a London-based global agency that provides original music to brands and media companies, has expanded its office to New York and Los Angeles and has also launched a Latin American music label.

The new Somos music label (which means “we are” in Spanish) is West One’s eighth label, and the first dedicated to Latin American music. Specifically, Somos will feature recordings composed, recorded and produced throughout Latin America, with the aim of taking the music -- including authentic tango, samba, rancheras and salsa -- to a broad audience around the world. The focus on the musical styles, rather than the artists themselves, differentiates Somos from other labels in the market, as does the fact that the music targeted is mainly Latin American, and not merely U.S. Latin. Somos will be led by Colombian producer Felipe Arévalo, a percussionist, producer, sound engineer and musician who’s worked in many different countries. In the next five months, the label is planning to release seven albums.

The first, Os Jogos (The Games), inspired by the 2016 Olympic games, is described as “inspirational, vibrant and emotive Brazilian music for sports, action and leisure.” It was produced by Arévalo with Comando-S, a group of musicians from Sao Paolo.

West One is led by president and creative director Edwin Cox. The company is a member of 45 collecting societies worldwide and has sup-publishing agreements in 27 countries. The company has an average of 900 tracks in use per day and has placed music in films like Furious 7 and Insurgent.
