Romeo Santos, Carlos Vives, Dionne Warwick to Play Latin Grammy Gala for Roberto Carlos
Romeo Santos, Carlos Vives, Dionne Warwick and Alejandro Sanz, Jesse & Joy, Camila and Victor Manuelle are among the stars set to perform at the Latin Grammy Person of the Year dinner for Roberto Carlos.
The pre-awards gala, to take place Nov. 18 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, honors the Brazilian artist, who is the top-selling Brazilian and Latin American act of all time.
The Latin Grammy Person of the Year award honors Carlos’ “important artistic and social contributions to Latin music and culture.”
A rock n' roll pioneer in South America, Carlos is best known for his repertoire of evergreen love ballads. The artist, who sold more albums in Latin America than The Beatles, recorded new versions of those hits for his just released retrospective album Primera Fila, at Abbey Road studio in London.
The Latin Grammy tribute to Carlos, now 74, is an invitation-only event that will benefit Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation. The event is produced by former MTV3 GM Jose Tillan.
More artists who are to perform at the dinner will be announced soon, according to Latin Grammy organizers.
Previous recipients of the Recording Academy Person of the Year honor include Miguel Bosé, Plácido Domingo, Gloria Estefan, Vicente Fernández, Juan Luis Guerra, Carlos Santana, Joan Manuel Serrat, Shakira, Julio Iglesias and Caetano Veloso, among others.
