Fonseca will be feted with the first-ever Contemporary Icon Award at this year’s SESAC Latina Music Awards in Los Angeles.

The Colombian singer-songwriter, born Juan Fernando Fonseca, will also perform at the annual gala, taking place June 17 at the Beverly Hills Hotel and celebrating the performance rights organization’s many songwriters, publishers and affiliates with chart-topping hits.

Fonseca joins a list of previously announced performers, including reggaeton star Nicky Jam and regional Mexican artist Noel Torres.

Known for his brand of tropical Latin pop, Fonseca has toured the world, amassed more than 100 million views on YouTube, and won three Latin Grammys -- including last year’s golden gramophone for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Fonseca Sinfónico, an ambitious symphonic recording performed with 100 musicians from Colombia’s National Symphony Orchestra. The album also landed at No. 4 in Billboard’s list of the top 10 Latin albums of 2014.

Recently, Fonseca teamed up with his compatriot Juanes for “Juntos,” featured in the Disney film McFarland USA. The inspirational track, co-written by Fonseca and performed by Juanes, topped the Latin Airplay and Latin Pop Songs in April 2015. It also hit No. 1 in Colombia for nine consecutive weeks, No. 1 in Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador and Central America, and Top 10 in Spain, Argentina, and Chile.
