But it all seems to have been in good fun. If you follow either or both reggaetoneros on social media then you already know they love a good laugh.
Here’s how the night unfolded...
In the first of a series of videos that Balvin posted throughout the night, he is seen hiding behind one of Nicky’s entourage members during Nicky's All Music Fest performance. In the Instagram caption, he wrote that he “publicly seeks compensation for his back-up singing services even though Nicky didn’t even notice I was there.”
Later that night, back in his hotel room, Nicky shot a video on his phone and posted it on Instagram, revealing Balvin’s exact location in the Peruvian capital, down to the hotel room number. In it, he invites “all women, midgets, and anybody who wishes to pay him a visit.”
Balvin responded by also revealing Nicky’s hotel room number.
And that’s when things got good. Nicky then proceeded to post Balvin’s personal WhatsApp number.
Balvin reciprocated by doing exactly the same to Nicky.
Which resulted in both of them getting blocked by WhatsApp for about 4 hours.
But Balvin didn’t seem too heartbroken about it, posting a video telling “fans, family, and friends, as you can probably tell, I don’t have WhatsApp anymore. I’ll be changing my number and I’ll be in touch soon. Thanks Nicky!”
Eventually the two reggaeton stars made peace with each other and are seen laughing it all off from Nicky’s hotel room. “We can’t even leave the hotel!” joked Balvin.
