Following roles in MTV's Underemployed (Miles), 90210 (Javier Luna) and Pretty Little Liars (Alex Santiago), Mexican actor/singer Diego Boneta landed the lead in the Fox series Scream Queens. The series, described as a "horror-comedy" from the creators of Glee (Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk), is slated to premiere fall 2015.
Boneta, who as a teen released two solo albums in his native Mexico, has been devoted mostly to acting in recent years. But last year, he signed with Sony Music U.S. Latin and announced that he also wanted further mine his musical side, with plans to release an EP in English and Spanish sometime in 2015.
"The idea is not to simply release an album but create a strategy that's congruent with my career," Boneta told Billboard at the time. He also pointed out that his music and acting careers were managed separately.
However, they often intertwine.
Boneta played Drew Boley in the film Rock of Ages, for example, and performed nine trakcs from film's soundtrack. And on March 31, he'll premiere "The Dovekeepers," a CBS miniseries produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey that features his single "Warrior."
On Scream Queens, which follows a college campus rocked by murders, Boneta plays a handsome, bookish student. The series also features Glen Powell, Lea Michele, Jamie Lee Curtis and Emma Roberts, among others.
