BLACKPINK Announce New Movie Coming Out This Summer

Get ready, Blinks! BLACKPINK is coming to your screen very soon with a new movie.

The superstar K-pop girl group announced Monday that they're coming out with BLACKPINK The Movie just in time for the fifth anniversary of the group's debut in August, which they plan to celebrate with a special "4+1 Project."

"BLACKPINK THE MOVIE Coming Soon August 2021," reads the caption underneath a teaser movie poster from YG Entertainment that features members Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rosé's names at the bottom.

Netflix premiered the BLACKPINK documentary Light Up the Sky in October, which highlighted their recording process, exclusive interviews and 2019 Coachella performance. The new movie poster also shines a spotlight on "The Show," which is the name of the livestream concert they hosted in January.

The South Korean group formed by YG Entertainment in 2016 debuted Aug. 8 of that year with the Square One project, which featured their breakthrough hit "Whistle" and "Boombayah." They went on to become the highest-charting female K-pop act on the Billboard Hot 100 when their 2020 "Ice Cream" collaboration with Selena Gomez debuted at No. 13.
