K-pop boy band Monsta X returned today (Oct. 28) with their new album Follow: Find You, fronted by the propulsive new single “Follow.”

An explosive dance track tinged with EDM breakdowns and moombahton-inspired beats, "Follow" weaves it's bombastic melodies in between the vocalist's verses and dramatic raps, with the title refrain arriving in the chorus as a powerful chanting anthem.

The track was released through a music video that focuses heavily on Monsta X's high-powered dancing and the members' charismatic visages, forgoing a straightforward plot in favor of artistically captivating cinematography.

The song and music video for “Follow” each feature traditional Korean-inspired elements, both in regard to the members' hanbok-inspired outfits as they perform the impactful choreography and the driving sound of the wind instrument known as taepyeongso, which is heard throughout the song.

The usage is the latest example of a growing trend among K-pop acts to incorporate traditional East Asian cultural and musical trapping into their releases. Other artists, including VIXX, BTS, and Ten of WayV and SuperM, have also prominently featured traditional components into their releases in recent years.

“Follow” is Monsta X’s first Korean single since February’s “Alligator,” and comes after the release of several English-language releases in recent months, including “Who Do U Love” with French Montana and “Someone’s Someone.” The new song is one of eight tracks on the act’s new Follow: Find You album, which was preceded by the release of a music video for the co-title song “Find You” last week.
