A new K-pop group has arrived on the scene with a “Flash.”

X1, a boy band created through the South Korean television show Produce X 101, released their first EP Quantum Leap today (Aug. 27) fronted by the dubstep-infused dance track.

The dynamic single flits between tempos, starting sleek before speeding up to vibrant pace, only to veer this way and that in the run up to the frenzied chorus and a dramatic beat drop. As much of a display of the members' vocals and rapping prowess as it is a performance-based song, "Flash" is a pure audio-visual experience meant to be simutaneously observed and listened to through the track's music video, during which X1's pristine, and aggressively impassioned, choreography takes center stage as they take a quantum leap towards the future of their career.

Along with the single, Quantum Leap features five other tracks, including an intro, two X1 versions of songs featured on Produce X 101, and the playful pop track "Like Always" and the sweet ballad "I'm Here For You."

X1 was formed through Mnet’s Produce X 101 television show, which is the fourth season in the Produce competition seriesProduce has featured hundreds of K-pop star hopefuls compete for places in audience-voted groups. The series has previously seen the formation of I.O.I., Wanna One, and IZ*ONE. The new team, which is contracted to be together for a period of five years, features 11 members, several of whom have previously been part of other K-pop groups, namely Up10tion, UNIQ, and Victon.

Mnet’s production of the Produce series has recently come under scrutiny for allegedly altering vote counts, and there is currently an ongoing investigation in South Korea into the results of Produce X 101 as well as prior seasons. Despite the allegations, X1's lineup has been fixed, and the companies behind Produce X 101's finalists have reportedly agreed to the group moving forward as is.

Despite Quantum Leap being their first release as X1, the new group has proven to be immensely popular in digital spaces: prior to their debut, X1 premiered on the Social 50 chart, landing at No. 6, and following the release of their first single album, several hashtags trended worldwide on Twitter.
