EXO’s Xiumin released the sentimental new song “You” on Thursday (May 9).

“You,” also known as “Reason” in Korean, is a sweet pop ballad through which the singer expressively sings about being grateful for and wanting to be by the side of “the reason that I keep walking.”

The track serves as a farewell song from Xiumin to fans after he began his mandatory draft service in South Korea’s military earlier this week, enlisting on Monday. The star will be absent from the entertainment world for a period of around two years. As the first member of EXO to enlist, Xiumin's hiatus and the release of "You" mark a new era for the popular act, which saw last year's Don't Mess Up My Tempo album peak at No. 23 on the Billboard 200.

"You" was released through a warm-hued music video, which features Xiumin as he relaxes and enjoys the beautiful moments and the small things in life while he contemplatively tries to write and send a letter.

The 29-year-old made his debut in EXO in 2012, originally part of the act’s China-focused EXO-M group. Since then, he’s been part of EXO unit CBX with bandmates Chen and Baekhyun, and also released a variety of one-off tracks.
