K-pop nonet Pentagon returned today (March 27) with their latest addicting dance track, “Sha La La.”

The song, which is their first Korean single of 2019, begins with a synth-imbued piano before turning into a future house track. With groovy rock and hip-hop elements, the group delivers a vibrant soundscape that puts the emphasis on Pentagon’s multi-faceted vocal delivery, playing with vocal alterations and layering the member’s voices over one anothers to create depth over the dynamic dance sounds.

“Sha La La” was released alongside a music video full of glitchy and pixelated throwback graphics and traditional East Asian-inspired sets, with Pentagon serving up a clip that feels both immensely modern and tied to the past.

“Sha La La” fronts Pentagon’s Genie:Us EP, their eighth EP since the group got its start in 2016. It is the first album from the group since former member E’Dawn parted ways with Cube Entertainment in 2018. Hui co-wrote the majority of the tracks on the album, including the single, while Kino, Yuto, Shinwon, and Wooseok are also credited as songwriters on the first five songs. The entire group is credited as co-writers on the final track, "Round 1."
