Twitter Records 5.3 Billion Tweets Associated With K-Pop in 2018
To the surprise of only those who don't use the site, K-pop had a huge presence on Twitter in 2018. And now the social media platform has confirmed it: 5.3 billion tweets referenced K-pop on Twitter over the 12-month period, the site announced this week.
According to Twitter, the 20 countries where audiences were tweeting about K-pop throughout the last year were: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru,the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam.
BTS was the most-tweeted-about account overall on Twitter throughout 2018, and the most-liked tweet of the year featured J-Hope participating in Drake's "In My Feelings" viral challenge. Other K-pop boy bands including EXO and GOT7 saw heavy traction on the site over the year as well.
Twitter also shared that the increasing popularity of its Twitter Blueroom broadcasts featuring K-pop acts have enabled the social media platform to provide advertisers with opportunities to engage with K-pop audiences.
