BTS Wins 'Time' Reader's Poll For Person Of the Year

Time notoriously chooses a Person of the Year every December, and while the magazine ultimately gave The Guardians (journalists targeted for their work) the title, readers first voted that K-pop icons BTS be given the honor.

The Person of the Year designation was to be given to the person, group or thing that was most influential in 2018. BTS got nine percent of readers' votes, beating out Planet Earth (which scored .12 percent below them), Thai Cave Divers (six percent), Mohammed bin Salman (five percent), Moon Jae-in (four percent), Undocumented Children (four percent), Michelle Obama (four percent) and more.

A group of editors at Time used the poll to gain insight into the readers’ opinions -- and while The Guardians group, containing Jamal Khashoggi, the Capital Gazette, Maria Ressa, Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo, was chosen -- the readers' selection shows that BTS has continued to stretch their influence.

The seven-member South Korean group also scored themselves a spot on Time's The 25 Most Influential People on the Internet list last year.
