BTS, EXO & Stray Kids Reign as Tumblr's Most Popular K-Pop Acts of 2018: Exclusive

"K-pop has proven time and time again to be Tumblr's favorite music genre."

With BTS representing the most used Tumblr tag for the entire year, Wednesday's (Nov. 28) kickoff to Tumblr's annual Year in Review proved K-pop's undying dominance on the platform while providing a deeper look at the scene's most popular acts telling even more interesting stories.

Billboard is proud to exclusively reveal the top 30 K-pop acts on Tumblr in 2018 with, once again, BTS and EXO leading a ranking that highlights the top boy bands, girl groups and solo stars on the scene.

Male groups make up a majority of the list with 19 of the 30 entries led by BTS, EXO, Stray Kids, Seventeen and GOT7. The second highest representation came from girl groups netting eight slots with Red Velvet, BLACKPINK, TWICE, LOONA and MAMAMOO leading the charge. Of these top-performers, Stray Kids and LOONA mark the only acts who made their official bows on the K-pop scene in 2018 -- a significant debut for such newcomers that speaks to Tumblr's place for early adopters and digital tastemakers.

"Rookie groups Stray Kids and LOONA were the biggest standouts on our K-pop list," Tumblr's content insights associate Beatrice Vantapool tells Billboard. "The Tumblr community followed both groups really closely since pre-debut. The Stray Kids reality show and LOONA's solo singles made them constants on our weekly Tumblr lists. A group has never debuted as high as No. 3 on the K-Pop Tumblr Year in Review list before so it'll be really exciting to see what Stray Kids will come out with in the new year."

Adds Vantapool, "K-pop has proven time and time again to be Tumblr's favorite music genre, especially this year."

Elsewhere on the tally, only three soloists made the year-end list for 2018 with SHINee's Taemin (who held his own Answer Time Q&A on Tumblr last fall) leading among men while HyunA represented the only solo female on the ranking.
