Four K-pop stars got together to form a "Wow Thing" of a girl group, with members of Red Velvet, GFriend and (G)I-dle joining soloist and former I.O.I member Chung Ha on a single released earlier Friday (Sept. 28).

A bright, R&B-influenced pop song, "Wow Thing" puts the foursome's powerful vocals in the spotlight and showcases their dynamic through its accompanying music video, released through SM Entertainment's Station X 0 project.

Sleek percussion drives the song’s bouncing beat as the quartet exudes charisma and sings inspirationally about being a "Wow Thing." It’s the latest of several Station X 0 songs to emphasize self-love and confidence in one’s own actions, urging people to be positive while finding their own path. "I'm just waking up/ Like a butterfly first spreading its wings,” sings SinB early on in the track. “There's a stage for me/ I will fly under bright lights.” The song ends with an uplifting flourish, as they sing about flying high to achieve their dreams and becoming like nothing that’s ever been seen before.

It was paired with a softly filtered music video that featured the song's butterfly as a spirit animal flitting about the women as they coolly show off how they're truly "Wow Thing"s around retro-inspired sets. The choreography is both captivating and powerful, with the four punching their fists and grabbing the camera's attention.

K-pop has seen these sorts of cross-label collaborations in the past -- three of the women even collaborated last year for a performance of INFINITE's "Be Mine" at KBS' 2016 Song Festival -- and SM’s Station X 0 is a digital music project entirely focused on collaborations, both within and outside of SM's roster. But this year has largely been lacking this sort of star power joining together, especially for original content. Red Velvet is the best-charting female Korean act on the World Albums chart with four No. 1 albums; GFriend rose to become a dominant K-pop girl group after they broke out with their first single “Glass Bead” in 2015; (G)I-dle have seen two hits since their debut in May, landing them on multiple charts; and Chung Ha grew prominent as a member of temporary girl group I.O.I and has seen major success in Korea with her breezy brand of tropical dance music. "Wow Thing" may not be on "Lady Marmalade"-level of pop collab perfection, but being able to see these four together motivating themselves and others is a bright moment for K-pop in 2018.
