LOONA also score their second entry on World Digital Song Sales this week with "Hi High" starting at No. 11. Their first, full-group song "favOriTe" originally debuted at No. 4 on the chart dated Aug. 18, 2018.
Altogether, LOONA score an impressive start not often seen by many K-pop girl groups who can land their first song and album entries on Billboard's world charts. So far, only six other female acts have accomplished this: Girls' Generation-TTS in 2012, Red Velvet and Twice in 2015, Blackpink in 2016, Pristin in 2017 and, just earlier this year, (G)I-DLE. See a breakdown of the list below:
Artist, Debut album (peak position on World Albums), Debut single (peak on World Digital Songs):
Girls' Generation-TTS, Twinkle (No. 1), "Twinkle" (No. 4)
Red Velvet, Ice Cream Cake (No. 2), "Happiness" (No. 4)
Twice, The Story Begins (No. 15), "Like Ooh-Ahh" (No. 6)
Blackpink, Square Two (No. 2), "Boombayah" (No. 1)
Pristin, Hi! (No. 10), "Wee Woo" (No. 11)
(G)I-DLE, I Am (No. 5), "Latata" (No. 4)
LOONA, [++] (No. 4, so far), "favOriTe" (No. 4)
Of this elite group, only TTS, Red Velvet, Blackpink and, now, the ladies of LOONA landed their debut EPs on Heatseekers.
For those keeping up throughout the past year-and-a-half, LOONA's [++] will deliver the slick synth-pop fans have come to expect from the group's long list of releases that have included a single release by each member plus three splinter groups via the sub-units LOONA 1/3 (made up members HaSeul, ViVi, HeeJin, HyunJin), LOONA Odd Eye Circle (Kim Lip, JinSoul and Choerry) and LOONA yyxy (Yves, Chuu, GoWon and Olivia Hye). With arguably their some of their easiest and catchiest melodies to date, "Hi High" and "favoRiTe" seem to make the group as easily digestible and prepped for maximum impact with the public. Meanwhile, cuts like the razor-sharp "Stylish" and the twinkly, wobbly glitch-pop of "Perfect Love" make good on the promise of the experimental sounds teased throughout their 18-month lead up.
If you didn't have time during the past year and a half to check out LOONA, get to know the girls better by watching one of the group's very first, full-group live performances:
