KCON 2018 NY took place at Newark’s Prudential Center in NJ this weekend, where more than 53,000 fans, according to KCON USA, and ten popular Korean artists met for a fun, interactive convention and music festival. Fronted by two nights of concerts, the second show begun with rookie boy band Golden Child, and featured performances from new girl group fromis9, icons EXID, the globalized team NCT 127, and ended with temporary boy band Wanna One.

Along with their full sets, where each act performed some of their most popular and recent singles, here are some of the special highlights:

1. Golden Child’s Joochan and fromis9’s Jiwon delivered a duet of ‘Hawaiian Couple’

The 2005 Humming Urban Stereo hit got a remake in the form of a sweet rendition from the two vocalists. Both Golden Child and fromis9 made their Stateside debut at KCON 2018 NY, where earlier that night each group got the crowd excited with their bright pop tracks, like the former’s “DamDaDi” and the latter’s new single “DKDK.”

2. fromis9 danced to classic K-pop girl group songs

The newest girl group in attendance at this year’s KCON NY, the eight fromis9 (also stylized fromis_9) members in attendance -- Jang Gyuri is currently competing on Produce 48 so wasn’t able to come stateside -- showed the concert audience some short dance covers of some of K-pop’s biggest hits, including Wonder Girls’ “Tell Me,” “Red Flavor” by Red Velvet,” TWICE’s “Cheer Up,” and Girls’ Generation’s “Gee.”

3. NCT 127 performed fan-fave ‘Whiplash’

Jaehyun, Mark, and Taeyong treated KCON 2018 NY’s audience to a surprise performance of the group’s dark and sultry hip-hop track “Whiplash,” which was released on last year’s Cherry Bomb EP.

The “Whiplash” stage was one of three special performances, along with Joochan and Jiwon’s duet and LE from EXID performing her fierce solo track “Velvet."

4. EXID taught the crowd ‘Up & Down’

The four members of EXID, sans Solji who has been MIA for several months due to health issues, ended their set with a dynamic performance of their breakout 2014 hit. They led into the song by teaching everyone the chorus’ famous “Up & Down” hip dance.

5. Wanna One’s units went all out

For their last album, the group broke up into two and three-member teams for four songs produced by prominent Korean artists Nell, Dynamic Duo, Heize, and Zico. The quartet of units introduced Wanna One’s set by showcasing a short sample of each song, which gave each of the 11-members a chance to shine brightly in the spotlight before joining together to perform several singles.

Wanna One closed out KCON 2018 NY with their first single "Energetic."
