KCON 2018 NY added K-pop girl group Red Velvet and boy band Pentagon to its concert lineup on Thursday (May 3).

Along with Pentagon and Red Velvet, the headlining concert of the Korean pop culture con and music festival will also feature K-pop groups such as EXID, Super Junior, Wanna One, fromis_9, Stray Kids, and NCT 127. Alt R&B soloist Heize is also set to perform.

This year will mark the first time the East Coast leg of KCON USA features more than two girl groups in its lineup.

It will also be the first time that Red Velvet will be performing on the East Coast since their debut in 2014. The quintet is one of the most popular Korean girl groups of this generation, and is one of the best-performing K-pop acts on the World Albums chart; until recently, the group was tied with BTS, GOT7 and B.A.P for having the most No. 1s on that chart, though BTS has since broken the tie.

Red Velvet were one of several musicians representing South Korea during a recent concert in Pyongyang, North Korea, where they performed their hits “Red Flavor” and “Bad Boy.”

Pentagon is a 10-member boy band formed in Cube Entertainment in 2010, who recently debuted on the Social 50 artist chart in April at No. 37 after finding success with their latest single “Shine.” The group’s become known in South Korea for featuring several songwriters, including Hui who became well-known for writing Produce 101’s “Never” and Wanna One’s “Energetic.”

KCON 2018 NY, produced by CJ E&M and Mnet, will take place at Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center on June 23-24. Along with two nights of concerts, it will feature diverse programming including a marketplace, panels and exclusive access to Korean artists.
