EXID & Heize Added to KCON 2018 NY Lineup
Following last week’s announcement that K-pop boy band Wanna One will be heading to KCON 2018 NY, KCON USA announced Thursday (April 12) that girl group EXID and soloist Heize will also be making appearances.
The news follows Heize releasing her Wish & Wind album last month and EXID dropping the '90s-inspired “Lady” earlier this month. Heize’s EP landed at No. 9 on the World Albums chart, while “Lady” peaked at No. 14 on the World Digital Songs Sales chart.
Heize got her start in 2014 and rose to fame through her appearance on the second season of the Korean rap show Unpretty Rapstar in 2015. She has since become one of South Korea’s most popular young soloists, and has released multiple hits, including “Star” and “Don’t Know You.” Wish & Wind was released with music videos for three songs: "Jenga," "Sorry" and "Didn't Know Me."
EXID was formed in 2012 and went viral in 2014 with their song "Up & Down,” one of several risque singles released by the group over the years. Their newest song “Lady” was released on April 2; it is one of a handful of recent singles featuring the quintet as a foursome due to member Solji taking time off to take care of her health. She was diagnosed with a hyperthyroidism condition in 2016 and has since only occasionally appeared with the rest of EXID. As of publication time, it is unclear whether she will join Hani, LE, Hyelin and Jeonghwa at KCON 2018 NY.
The East Coast leg of the annual Korean pop culture convention and music festival returns to Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center for its fourth year and will be held on June 23 and 24. It will be the first time that both acts attend the New York City-area event, though both Heize and EXID made their KCON debuts last year. The girl group appeared at KCON 2017 Mexico, while the alt-R&B soloist appeared at KCON 2017 LA, where she was brought to tears.
Additional acts will be added to the KCON 2018 NY lineup in upcoming weeks.
