Heize Returns With 'Wish & Wind' EP: Watch the Video for 'Jenga'

South Korean alt-R&B darling Heize served up her new EP Wish & Wind, along with two new music videos yesterday.

A six-track album, the 26-year-old’s latest, was led by two tracks, “Jenga” (with rapper Gaeko) and “Didn’t Know Me.” The pair of expressive songs effuse sentimentality through Heize’s cool yet emotive vocals, with “Jenga” heavily incorporating jazz instrumentals with groovy R&B. Meanwhile, the mellow soft pop ballad “Didn’t Know Me” features a simple guitar-and-snapping melody to showcase its reflective nature.

The music video for “Jenga” depicts Heize as the retro jazz-pop princess she is, tiara and all. The clip emphasizes her serene beauty with captivating visuals of the moon and '30s-inspired settings, as she sings about not wanting to play the titular game of romance any longer. The video shows a person dressed in a bear costume as the object of her affections, revisiting the imagery that we previously saw in last year’s “Don’t Know You.”

Meanwhile, "Didn't Know Me" features a much more expressive music video, starring an acting-hopeful lost in his memories as he recalls the good times he spent with the woman he loves, who is now a popular actress he broke up with, over his complex feelings related to her success.

Upon its release, "Jenga" quickly topped South Korean local charts, closely followed by “Didn’t Know Me” and other album tracks. Along with the two singles, Wish & Wind features four other songs, including the rhythmic “But, Are You?,” the groovy electro funk of “wish you well” (with Davii), the instrumental “Wind,” and the playful “Sorry.”  Each of the album tracks were written by Heize and Davii, while Gaeko wrote his lyrics for "Jenga." A third music video for “Sorry” is set to be released on March 12.

After rising to prominence through the second season of the Korean hip-hop talent competition Unpretty Rapstar, Heize has quickly gained renown as one of the country’s most popular singer-songwriters. Last year’s You Are Cloudy peaked on the World Albums chart at No. 12.
