Just a few weeks after the release of their chart-topping Japanese release “Candy Pop,” TWICE is back as a “Brand New Girl” in their latest music video.

The B-side of their Candy Pop single album, "Brand New Girl" was released on Feb. 7, over a month after "Candy Pop" first premiered through a music video on Jan. 12. Like the majority of TWICE’s singles, the song is upbeat and full of vibrant, head-bopping verses, with lyrics reflecting on the life of a millennial girl. Pop-rock instrumentals lighten up the song’s sound, forgoing popular EDM and house trends and instead blending peppy drum beats and guitar melodies with sparkling synths and occasional piano riffs.

"Brand New Girl" is TWICE's third original Japanese song after “One More Time” and "Candy Pop," marking an increase in their original content aimed at the J-pop market.

The video for "Brand New Girl," released Thursday, returns the group to some familiar imagery: the text messages emulate the social-media theme established in "Likey" and there's a return of the handheld camera from the same video. And while the group's golf-wear and school uniforms are new styles, they recall what the K-pop girl group wore in earlier videos like "Cheer Up," which saw the nonet acting as schoolgirls and cheerleaders. There's also a clip from the anime-inspired "Candy Pop" music video.

With three Japanese members, TWICE has spent many of the past few months making a dedicated push into the lucrative J-pop industry. They’re one of several rookie Korean acts pivoting to focus on Japan after establishing themselves as prominent K-pop stars; Seventeen and GFriend recently announced that they will also begin to focus heavily on the Japanese market.

Ever since the release of their 2015 single “Like Ooh-Ahh,” TWICE has proven to have the Midas touch of K-pop; each single proved to be immensely popular and the girl group is undeniably one of the most popular girl groups in Korea today. The act has seen multiple albums rank on the World Albums chart and the Japan Hot 100, where “Candy Pop” is currently sitting at No. 1; “Brand New Girl” is at No. 66, and eight other songs by the group are ranked.
