DAY6, "I like you"

At the start of 2017, Day6 launched an ambitious plan to release a new single, music video, and b-side, plus hold a concert, every month for the entire year. With today’s release of Moonrise, the Korean pop rock band completed the project, leaving behind an expanded discography that has further developed the group’s sound.

Fronted by three new songs -- the sweeping confessional “I Like You,” the uplifting rock anthem “Better Better,” and the a capella-imbued “I’ll Try -- the 13-track Moonrise serves as the follow-up to the midyear Sunrise, with each album compiled of the tracks released by Day6 throughout the year. The new release is filled, like its solar counterpart, with spry pop-rock songs that alternate between softer sentimental ballads and harder, upbeat funk or electronica-infused dance tunes.

Along with the new album to cap off Every Day6, December brought Day6’s final music video of the year. To match the sweet styling of the midtempo “I Like You,” the members performed as a backing band to a tender love story about a barista at a coffee shop who gets surprised by a giant balloon bearing the titular admission.

In comparison to some of their previous music videos, the accompanying imagery for “I Like You” was straightforward and light-hearted, but its simplicity belies the intense year Day6 is putting behind them. With two full-length albums and a dozen music videos, regular shows in Korea, and a stateside tour, the quintet was one of the most prolific K-pop acts in 2017. While still on the rise in both Korea and among international K-pop fans, the group not only solidified their sound and style through the Every Day6 project (landing themselves on Billboard charts), but also begun to develop a dedicated following on social media, landing themselves at No. 14 on Tumblr’s year-end K-pop list.
