BTS 'MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)' Official Teaser

BTS leaned into the oft-mistaken meaning behind their name with a behind-the-scenes video of the K-pop superstars shooting the music video for their “MIC Drop” remix.

The remix is the product of the septet’s collaboration with Steve Aoki and Desiigner. “We’ve been able to do a collaboration with Desiigner,” Jungkook says, according to the fan translation channel, Bangtan Subs. RM finishes off the thought by saying, “It’s a huge honor to be able to work with him.”

BTS has been careful to stay true to their Korean roots as the group picks up momentum in the States. But the leader addressed the lyric changes in the remix. “We rewrote the lyrics in English, for the song to be able to be heard by more people,” RM says. “Honestly speaking, this is our first time attempting to do this as well, so I can’t imagine how it will turn out.”

Throughout the video, on-set interview segments weave between b-roll footage of the members snapping selfies with funny faces. Inevitably, dad jokes abounded about Jin being a mite when he gives J-Hope a back-hug. The two jokesters later incorporate one of their filming locations, Dangjin, into their “Go Go” lyrics.

Jimin and Jungkook speak to the camera about their anticipation for filming their wire scenes. “I like these sorts of things so I’m not scared,” says Jungkook, who’s notorious for his capacity to physically push himself. A big smile can be seen on his face when he’s launched in the air by the wire. “You look like you’re in some kind of martial arts cartoon,” Suga says as he observed the shoot. Jungkook later says that this was the most memorable scene from the shoot.

One of the most endearing moments happens when RM is supposed to bust out the back of an ambulance and struggles to open the doors. Meanwhile, J-Hope kjumps when a car exploded, which recalls their set for their “Fire” music video.

Later in the video, RM acknowledges the inspiration behind “MIC Drop: “A mic drop is a sort of performance that former President Obama did last year at the end of his [Correspondent’s Dinner speech]."
