NCT 127 & Astro Added to KCON 2017 LA Lineup
K-pop fans attending the West Coast leg of this year’s KCON USA presented by Toyota will be pleased to see two youthful boy bands added to the lineup.
While fresh-faced, neither of the two acts are new faces for KCON: Astro performed last year in the same venue at KCON 2016 LA, while NCT 127 will appear later this month at KCON 2017 NY for their first KCON USA performance.
NCT 127 is the newer of the two groups, as the nine-member act joined the K-pop rat race last July with the release of their self-titled debut EP and the single “Firetruck,” a trap-hip hop hybrid. Produced by SM Entertainment, NCT 127 is one of three groups currently active as part of the K-pop label's larger NCT boy band project. Along with NCT #127, the band released the EP Limitless earlier this year and are planning to release their third EP, Cherry Bomb, on June 14.
Astro is an act that’s a few months older than NCT 127, though not by much; the six-member boy band released their first EP, Spring Up, in February 2016. Since then, the group’s released four additional EPs, including three that followed up with Spring Up’s seasonal theme, and their most recent release, Dream Part. 01, at the end of May. The group favors a bright, upbeat image and their newest single, “Baby,” delved into the realm of playful synth-pop.
The two boy bands join already-announced KCON 2017 LA acts Girl’s Day and SF9. The four groups will be just a handful of K-pop stars set to perform throughout the three nights of the headlining concerts of the convention and music festival. Additional acts and the nightly concert lineup for KCON 2017 LA will be announced in weeks to come.
Tickets will go on sale July 7 at 7 a.m./10 a.m. ET/PT, while tickets are currently on sale for KCON 2017 NY, which will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on June 23 and 24.
