NCT is the ambitious new boy band project from South Korean super-label SM Entertainment and the chart performance of its first EP seems to indicate things are on the right track.

NCT -- which stands for Neo Culture Technology -- is the overall name given to SM Entertainment's boy band project that will aims to "localize" K-pop by separate units in cities around the world that all promote under the NCT name. The project was introduced via the six-member NCT U, which released two separate singles "The 7th Sense" and "Without You" in April. The latest, NCT 127, is based in Seoul, boasts seven members and has entered multiple Billboard charts with their EP, NCT #127: The 1st Mini Album.

NCT 127 start at No. 2 on the World Albums chart and the seven-track EP is the top-selling K-pop release in America of the week. The record also debuts at No. 22 on Heatseekers Albums, a chart that sees far less K-pop acts.

The EP is supported by the spastic, hip-hop banger "Fire Truck" that showcases a much different side from the hip-hop and rock-pop sounds embraced by NCT U's singles. "Fire Truck" also debuts at No. 2 on World Digital Songs, which matches the best ranking by NCT U when "7th Sense" hit No. 2 in April and "Without You" at No. 3.

Further NCT units are expected to debut in Japan and China, while there have even been talks of Latin American-based teams.
