Viral Sensations Ylvis & Crayon Pop to Collaborate Onstage at 2013 MAMAs
Stevie Wonder and Icona Pop also join K-pop stars 2NE1 and EXO at Korea's biggest music award show, the Mnet Asian Music Awards.
Two viral sensations of the East and West will join forces at the 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMAs), South Korea's biggest music award show likened as a Korean Grammy Awards.
The facts: Ylvis is the Norwegian duo with more than 200 million views of their Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hit "The Fox"; Crayon Pop are the quickly-rising K-pop girl group with more than 11.5 million views of their K-Pop Hot 100 No. 1 single "Bar Bar Bar." They will perform a ridiculous-but-sure-to-be-memorable set at the show on November 22.
Before 2013, the two acts were essentially unknown before breaking out with Ylvis' clever, but ridiculous, take on EDM and the quintet's hilarious kitschy-cute "straight-five engine dance."
Mnet, the Asian entertainment brand hosting the ceremony, promised "a stage that has never been seen before," adding collaboration performances were a big priority for this year's MAMAs at a press conference Nov. 13. In past shows, Western stars like Snoop Dogg and B.o.B. have performed with Asian acts like 2NE1 and Seo In Young.
Highlights from last year's MAMAs included performances from Adam Lambert as well as the first time PSY and HyunA performed "Gangnam Style" together.
