Busker Busker Top K-Pop Chart With Year-Old Single
Indie K-pop band Busker Busker’s "Cherry Blossom Ending" has a spring-inspired title, but the song is becoming South Korea's anthem for the season as it rises back to No. 1 a year after its release.
Since its April release, the track topped the K-Pop Hot 100 for two weeks after debuting at No. 1 on the April 14 chart. It seized the top spot from 2AM's two-week chart topper "I Wonder If You Hurt Like Me?" The video has earned over 3.5 million views and is the second most-viewed video on entertainment company CJ E&M Media's (who distributed the video) YouTube page. The group also picked up the Best Band Performance award as well as Best New Male Artist at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMAs) for the track.
The song is now finding a resurgence of popularity again by people ready for springtime. There's no real association for the song's surprise second round of success other than K-pop fans associating this feel-good No. 1 hit with the spring months.
Female duo Davichi is riding high with chart success from their new album "Mystic Ballad Pt. 2," with two singles in the Top 10. Pre-release track "Turtle" rises to No. 2 (from No. 3) after four weeks on the chart and the album's official single "Just the Two of Us" rises to No. 9 (from No. 14) in its second week.
Popular boy band INFINITE make this week’s biggest debut with their new single “Man In Love” starting off at No. 6 on the chart. The song, which is the first single from INIFINITE as a group in almost a year after solo and sub-unit promotions, marks yet another Top 10 hit for the group. It will still need to be seen if the group’s single is strong enough to make it to No. 1.
Elsewhere on the chart, Girls' Generation member Tae Yeon's No. 1 soundtrack ballad from last week, "And One," falls two spots to No. 3 as last week's No. 2, Akdong Musician's "Creschendo," also falls two spots to No. 4. Rap duo Supreme Team blasts up to No. 5, from No. 25, with their new single "Stay The Way You Are" featuring Crush. Three other ballads also fall down the chart as Gummy's former No. 1 "Snow Flower" falls three spots to No. 7, The One's soundtrack ballad "Winter Love" falls two to No. 8 and 2AM's comeback track "One Spring Day" falls five to No. 10.
