Lil' Kim Reveals Her Favorite Memories From Filming 'Lady Marmalade': Watch

Lil' Kim recently visited the Billboard office to play ‘Fishing for Answers,’ as she chatted about her favorite female MCs of today, who she’d want to play her in a biopic of her life, and she recalled some memories from filming the “Lady Marmalade” music video with Mya, Christina Aguilera, and P!nk.

Pulling questions from a fish bowl, Lil' Kim is prompted to answer questions such as what her favorite song off of her new album 9 is, to which she replies that before it came out, it was “Too Bad,” but now, “Pray for Me” is one of her favorites. She is also asked what the funniest rumor she’s ever heard about herself has been, and she responds with a laugh, “That I had a sex tape out.”

In the interview, she also thinks back to some of her favorite album covers she has released, noting that The Notorious K.I.M. was “super hard” and she enjoyed getting to sport a fake tattoo on her stomach, reminiscent of Tupac’s tattoo. She adds that she also loved doing the La Bella Mafia cover shoot, because she had the opportunity to wear a bunch of brand name outfits that designers sent to her.

As for who her favorite female MCs of today are, Lil' Kim notes that she loves Cardi B, City Girls, and Megan Thee Stallion. She also names DeJ Loaf, adding that people forget about her. “That's my friend. I call her my little Sade, 'cause she's like the female rap Sade,” explains Lil' Kim. “I always tell her that. She need to run with that.”

Asked who she would want to play her in a biopic, Lil' Kim hints that a movie about her life might not be very far off from happening. She says that when a film about her life does get made, she will go back to Brooklyn and hold auditions until she finds the right person for the role.

“If that is Teyana or Lil Mama, whoever it is, it's gotta be perfect,” she says. “I wanna give some girl out the hood that chance coming from Brooklyn, who knows what it's like growing up in Brooklyn. That's very, very, very important when you playing somebody, and by the way that may be really, really soon.”

Lil' Kim also reflects upon memories from filming her iconic 2001 “Lady Marmalade” music video with Mya, Christina Aguilera, and P!nk, noting that they all worked really hard that day.

“I remember there was a little tension because…Mya's my girl, and we’d just recently got close,” she shares. “But a lot of the girls don't know each other. I knew almost everybody, but everybody was in their own little corner.” She says that everyone spoke with her, but not with each other. “Don't get me wrong,” she adds. “I just think they didn't know each other…It was hard 'cause I had to be the host of ‘Lady Marmalade.’”

She also reveals that by the time they all performed the song at the Grammys together, they had gotten to know one another so they had “so much fun together” there. “I think I remember rollerskating backstage into everybody's room,” she adds. “I'm dead ass serious. I just roller skated right up on Christina like, ‘What up, yo?’" and she was like, ‘Girl, are you on roller skates?’ I was like, ‘Yep, bye!’”
