Missy Elliott Drops 'Iconology' Project: Stream It Now, Plus Watch 'Throw It Back' Video

Fans have been starving for new music from Missy Elliott. As she gears up for for a celebratory end to August, Elliott came through with a new project on Friday (Aug. 23) titled Iconology. She also dropped a music video for one of the project's tracks, "Throw It Back."

The Virginia native announced the effort on Thursday afternoon as a "collection of songs."

"Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance! Sincerely, Dr. Melissa 'Missy' Elliott #ICONOLOGY," she wrote. "This year has been a tremendous year for me…I am humbled and grateful. THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me!"

Elliott will make history next week when she becomes the first female rapper to take home the Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards on Monday. Jennifer Lopez was honored with the Vanguard Award at the 2018 VMAs.
