The end of August is shaping up to be an epic time for Missy Elliott and her fans. Prior to being the first female rapper honored with the Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards on Monday, Missy announced plans for a new project, Iconology, which is releasing at midnight.
The "collection of new songs" arrives 14 years after Elliott's The Cook Book album. "Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance! Sincerely, Dr. Melissa 'Missy' Elliott #ICONOLOGY," she wrote when revealing the project's cover art.
With Missy being honored for her seminal contributions to music at the VMAs, she took a second to thank the fans who have supported her throughout her decorated career. "This year has been a tremendous year for me…I am humbled and grateful," the Virginia native continued. "THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me!"
