Get to Know 'Broke As F--k' Rapper YBN Cordae: Watch

In this week’s episode of “You Should Know,” Billboard is getting to know rapper YBN Cordae, as he reveals what albums and musicians have most influenced him, which skill he would love to one day master, and more.

Asked what his favorite album of all time is, the rapper initially jokes that it’s an album that just dropped called The Lost Boy from this “young cat” called Cordae, referring to his own album. He then lists Jay-Z’s The Blueprint, Kanye West’s The College Dropout, and NasIllmatic and It Was Written as some of his top picks.

As for his biggest musical inspirations, YBN Cordae names the likes of Lauryn Hill, JAY-Z, Nas, Tupac, Big L, The Notorious B.I.G., and Eminem.

In the interview, YBN Cordae also reveals that he would like to learn to speak more languages like Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, and French. “I only know English, so I feel like I can be the dopest French rapper ever if I learned French,” he says. “So expand my horizon. When I'm traveling I can actually have dope conversations with people.”

Posed with the question of which song of his people should listen to first to get into his music, YBN Cordae opts for “RNP,” his collaboration with Anderson .Paak. “It's just so universal,” he says. “So I feel like all the people can love that, younger folks can love that, everybody should love that, for sure.”

YBN Cordae chats about his new album The Lost Boy, as well, explaining that it was inspired by the things he has experienced, witnessed and gone through, including his family and his journey so far.
