Mike Posner had spent the past four months walking his way across the country, racking up 1,800 miles of his 2,833-mile goal, before he hit a major snag last week. The 31 year-old rapper revealed to fans on Thursday (Aug. 8) that his walkabout was interrupted when a baby rattlesnake bit him, sending him to the hospital where he has, ironically, been learning how to walk again.

"Crazy day yesterday! I had just crushed 16 miles and was going for 8 more when I got bit by a baby rattlesnake! --," he wrote. "That venom is no joke! I got to the hospital and got the anti-venom in time. Shout outs to G and Mike from the chopper team -- and Bo and Cassie and Whitney (my nurses). I’ll be here a few days and will not be able to walk for several weeks but enjoying the AC and the nice bed, haven’t had those in a while Hahahaha! Can’t wait to get back on The Walk! KEEP GOING!!!!!!"

"I knew walking across America was going to be dangerous. I knew I could die doing it. I still might. So don’t feel sorry for me," Posner wrote on Sunday (Aug. 11), alongside a hospital bed freestyle wondering if he's been missing out on life by obsessing over social media before realizing that's he's become everything he is by everything he's gone through. "I’m proud I’m in this hospital after chasing my dream and not sitting on the couch watching Netflix. I’m proud of this pain."

On Saturday, Posner a video from the hospital in which a nurse helped him take a few tentative steps with the help of a walker. "From 24 miles per day to using this walker to get to bathroom. I’m on my way back," he wrote. "Gonna rebuild with patience and equanimity... Molly and her husband from PT are gonna come help me walk again tomorrow. KEEP GOING."

Posner kicked off his cross-country trek in mid-April, leaving from Asbury Park, New Jersey, on a route that took him through his home town of Detroit on the way to Venice Beach, California. Before his departure, Posner told Billboard that the walk was something he'd wanted to do "for years and years," but after the deaths of his father, attorney M. Jon Posner, in January of 2017, and then his friend Avicii during April of 2018, the trek became a priority.

"I feel everyone has a list of things they'd like to do in life and then a list of things they have to do," Posner said. "After (the deaths) I realized I couldn't wait to do these things I had to do on that list. I'd been putting (the walk) off for years and years and years. The time is now."

The walk comes just months after the January release of Posner's third studio album, A Real Good Kid, which he co-executive produced with Ricky Reed.
