Emerging Hip-Hop/R&B: Lil Tecca & Polo G Make Moves on Hot 100
For last week's Emerging Hip-Hop/R&B, DaBaby made his top 10 debut on the Hot 100, while Beast Coast stormed its way to No. 2 on the Emerging Charts. For this week's edition, we look at Lil Tecca and Polo G's latest respective chart moves.
Lil Tecca Makes Hot 100 Bow With "Ransom"
This week, Queens teen Lil Tecca debuts on the Hot 100, with his catchy "Ransom" landing at No. 93. Last month, the 16-year-old recruited music video savant Cole Bennett to direct the visual for "Ransom," and within a few weeks, the raunchy video has already raked in over 14 million views.
Tecca's giddy sing-song delivery fuels the song, as he raps about his "two twin glocks" and "shawties pulling up to his place." In an e-mail to Billboard, Tecca succinctly expressed his joy about his latest feat: "'02 babies winning. SPLEEE."
Last year, Tecca made a splash with his piano-laden single "Love Me," where he flaunted his melodic bars over a Taz Taylor and Nick Mira-produced record. The MC has since earned co-signs from PnB Rock and Lil Mosey.
Polo G's "Pop Out" Accelerates
Polo G is growing into more than just a promising act with the success of "Pop Out." The Chi-Town star's single with Lil Tjay dashes to No. 22 on the Hot 100 after coming in at No. 27 last week. With "Pop Out" thriving on the Hot 100, Polo opted to gift fans the remix to his booming single, by enlisting trap masters Lil Baby and Gunna for "Pop Out Again."
Columbia Records' rising act is looking to make an impressive start on the Billboard 200 as well next week after unleashing his debut album Die a Legend last Friday (June 7). As he does on "Pop Out," Polo's penchant for harrowing street tales drives his 14-track endeavor and has him locked in as a potential leader in Chicago's burgeoning trap scene.
