Lil Nas X performs onstage during Day 2 of 2019 Boston Calling Music Festival on May 25, 2019 in Boston.

Anderson .Paak and The Free Nationals surprised fans during their Green Stage set by inviting out Lil Nas X at Boston Calling on Saturday (May 25).

It all went down when .Paak introduced his talented keyboardist, Ron Tnava Avant, who proceeded to riff on a few songs, including "Pony" by Ginuwine. Avant then transitioned into “Old Town Road,” and that’s when the cell phone cameras went up.

Lil Nas X made quite the entrance, strutting onto the main stage in a white cowboy hat and black and white leather suit with a flame design (sans shirt underneath). As he launched into “Old Town Road,” which is currently topping the Billboard Hot 100 for a 7th straight week, the crowd naturally went bananas.

Lil Nas X had previously been added to the festival’s schedule as a “special guest,” but no further details were announced until the day of. Most fans didn’t know the “Old Town Road” rapper was going to appear during .Paak’s set until the moment actually happened.

Boston Calling wraps up tomorrow (May 26) at the Harvard University Athletics Complex in Boston, MA. Check out the Sunday lineup here.
