"Gym Class" is also back in circulation.
One of late rapper Lil Peep's most beloved tracks, the 2015 ballad "Star Shopping," was re-released on Friday (April 19) on the MC's eponymous imprint. In a note explaining the reboot of the song, Peep's mother Liza Womack wrote in a statement, "Gus actually composed the lyrics to ‘Star Shopping’ on his phone, in his Notes app, on August 16, 2015 -- right after a trip to Cambridge for his grandfather's birthday. The song wasn't uploaded to SoundCloud until December of that year. That was Gus's big song, as he got many views and likes on it right away--20k in 24 hours, and over a hundred thousand in a week. He was very excited about that.”
According to Genius.com, the song was previously unavailable on most streaming services due to a copyright issue with a sample.
"Shopping" is one of two classic Peep tracks Womack revived on Friday, the other being the woozy "Gym Class," which dates to early 2016. Womack promised that a video for "Gym Class" will be re-released on Peep's official YouTube channel soon. "Gus liked ‘Gym Class’ enough to make a video for it. He had returned to the Pasadena house he had lived in during the fall/winter of 2014-15, but this time was collaborating with a slew of comrades he had befriended during the winter of 2015-16,” said Womack. “He made the ‘Gym Class’ video with his friend and collaborator, Killstation. Killstation recalled that the photos used as overlays for the videos title and frame animations were drawn by Gus--using a sharpie on a paper towel, as there was no paper in their house.”
