Donald Glover Announces Creative Partnership With Adidas, Including Footwear & Short Films

Donald Glover is always searching for new avenues to exercise his creative freedom, with the common denominator being that he does it on his own terms. After bringing  Beyoncé onboard earlier in the month, Adidas announced a new deal with Donald Glover on Thursday (April 18). The partnership will see the Atlanta creator reimagine three different pairs of adidas Originals and flesh out his vision with a short film series.

"Rich is a concept," Glover stated in a press release. "With this project, I wanted to encourage people to think about how their stories can be told on their feet. Value isn’t quantified by what you wear, rather the experiences from them. And you make the decision on what works for you, you live through your own lens. The partnership for me is about being able to exemplify what doing your own thing truly looks and feels like."

For his first official move collaborating with the footwear giant, the 35-year-old has re-created the Nizza, Continental 80 and Lacombe models through his Donald Glover Presents line. All three feature a white canvas and will be available online globally starting April 26. Prices for each pair range from $80 to $100. 

Following the release of his Rihanna-starring Guava Island flick, Glover flexed his directing ability by teaming with Adidas for a short film, which finds Gambino acting alongside Mo'Nique. He plays the son of the famed comic, as she belittles him for never living up to her expectations.

The "This Is America" artist also AirDropped photos of his new Adidas kicks during his Coachella performance over the weekend to select members of the audience, who were each given a pair after the show.
