The collab with Rihanna will launch on Amazon on Saturday (April 13).

Donald Glover has been involved in some pretty amazing projects, but asked where his new film Guava Island falls on the list of his favorites, the rapper/actor/director said the answer is clear. “I’m really humbled having the opportunity to present something this timely and timeless," Glover said in a statement announcing the details of the film that will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on Saturday (April 13) at 12:01 a.m. PT. "Between Rihanna and the people of Cuba, this is one of my favorite projects I’ve ever worked on."

The closely-kept project starring Glover, Rihanna, Game of Thrones' Nonso Anozie, and Black Panther's Letitia Wright will be available in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide here. Glover's frequent collborator director Hiro Murai said Guava Island is the "end result of four incredible weeks spent in Cuba with some of the most inspiring creative talents I’ve ever met... Designers, performers, musicians, and filmmakers came together from all over the world to create this crazy fever dream of a production.”

Murai directed Guava Island, which was written by Glover's brother, Stephen Glover, based on a story by Royalty, described as "an expansion of Glover’s idea of freedom. In creative and business terms." The film was produced by Fam Udeorji, Carmen Cuba, Donald Glover & New Regency, who also financed the project, with executive producers Stephen Glover, Hiro Murai, and Ibra Ake. Amazon Studios acquired the exclusive distribution rights to the film for Amazon Prime Video in a competitive bidding situation while it was still in post-production, according to the statement released on Thursday (April 11).

Guava Island will premiere at the Coachella Music Festival on Thursday, the day before Glover's rap alter ego, Childish Gambino, headlines the festival, in what is described as a "specially constructed theater built for the event"; the movie will screen on the Coachella grounds until the end of the festival. It will be free to stream until 6 p.m. PT on Saturday here, after which time it will be available only for Amazon Prime Video customers. It will also stream on Twitch at 5 p.m. PT on Saturday for free.
