Young Thug's promise for new music came and went ungranted last Friday, and his Instagram post has since been deleted. But there is something on the horizon after all: Complex originally reported on Friday (March 29) and Billboard can confirm that J. Cole will serve as the executive producer on Thugger's upcoming album.

In addition to Complex's report stating that the pair of rap titans have begun recording sessions for the project in NYC, Billboard has heard from sources close to the situation that music from the project could debut at Cole's Dreamville Fest, which kicks off April 6 in Raleigh, N.C.

Cole enlisted Young Thug to join him on the KOD Tour last year, and during a 2018 interview with Angie Martinez at Rolling Loud, he spoke highly of Thugger's unique ability. "If you want to talk about Young Thug as an artist, he’s an innovator," the Dreamville CEO said at the time. "If you know skills -- you can call him a mumble rapper all you want -- but if you know skills and you know the art of rapping, that dude is a genius."

As part of Cole's cover story with Billboard last September, Thugger chimed in that his bond with Jermaine goes "deeper than music. It's a vibe." Thug also previewed unreleased music on Instagram from the studio just last week.
