Rich the Kid Talks New Album 'The World Is Yours 2' & Why He's 'The Hottest Rapper In the F---ing World'

No one can mute Rich the Kid's confidence. Nearly a year after releasing his debut album, The World Is Yours, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and spawned two multi-platinum singles in "New Freezer" featuring Kendrick Lamar and "Plug Walk," trying to flatten his ego would be a lost cause.

"Listen, the album is going to be the most streamed album. I told you already, it's going to be the album of the year, but it's going to be the top streamed album of the year whole year. I know for sure," Rich assures me after a commanding performance at our Billboard NYC offices. "Like, I know that off the top of my head. So I know we're going for the biggest of the biggest. I am the hottest artist in the fucking world." Though I remind him of Drake's current stranglehold on the rap game, Rich attempts to stiff-arm my rebuttal with his sense of humor. "Rich The Kid. For the people and the kids," he quips.

For someone who once worked the cash register at Wendy's, Rich's tagline, though hyperbolic, does hold some weight, especially after his strong outing on album one. In hopes of dodging the sophomore curse, Rich returns with his star-heavy album, The World Is Yours 2, boasting a line-up featuring Big Sean, Young Thug, Miguel, Ty Dolla $ign, Gunna, Offset and more. Despite his beefy feature-list, Rich proves he has no problem riding solo, as he pens booming records such as "Splashin'" and his D.A. Doman-assisted earworm "Save That."

Billboard catches up with Rich the Kid to touch on his sophomore album The World Is Yours 2, why he feels that he's the "hottest rapper in the world," his love for collaboration, evolving as a CEO and more. Check out our interview below.

When we last spoke, you told me The World Is Yours 2 will be album of the year for 2019.

How do you feel about that?

I told you. I listened to the album. First 10 tracks [and] there's not one bad track yet, but why do you feel this project will outdo not only your debut album but also the rest of the competition?

I feel like that 'cause it's an album that has full of hits. It's not like I came in there and was trying to make regular songs. Every song is a hit. Every song is a smash, so I don't think anybody has done that in the last century. No cap!

Last year, you debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and you had multi-platinum singles in "New Freezer" and "Plugwalk." When you were in the studio making this album, did you feel any pressure because you know the sophomore curse is a real thing in hip-hop?

For real? I didn't know that. I didn't know of that. I just went in there, and I record so much work so that when it's time to do an album it's like I just pick the songs and it's like, 'Yeah, it's time for that.' I got so much. So I'm coming back right after this. Quick.

How soon is quick?

Quick. [Laughs]

You have a lot of heavy hitters on the album. You have Big Sean, Gunna, Offset, Young Thug, Miguel, and Ty Dolla $ign. What do you love about collaborations so much?

I like bringing the best out of the track. When I do a track, I pick the beat, and I have a very unique beat selection. After I make the song, I try to hear who I would hear on the song for the fans. Not only for myself, but I be like, 'Yo. Who would really be good on this?' So, that's how I go about collaborating with people.

The "Woah" record you have with Miguel & Ty Dolla, talk about that whole studio session and how you were able to get those two R&B juggernauts on one track.

Me and Miguel did the record, and it was dope. I did one verse to it, and then I changed it. When I got to New York, I sent it to Ty Dolla, he sent it back to me the same day, like in two hours and you already know it's a smash.

You also have Tory Lanez on the "Tick Tock" single. You guys previously teamed up on "Talk to Me," have you both entertained the thought of doing an EP or even a mixtape down the line?

Yeah, we're just working right now. We got a whole bunch of more music that's unreleased, so we're gonna have to see how it comes. We never miss. It's a hit-for-hit or a smash.

In addition to growing as an artist, you've also evolved as a businessman with your label Rich Forever Music. Talk about your evolution from the business front.

You know, it's just great being able to balance being a boss [and] a CEO of your own organization, helping out other people and people your team on [by] helping their families. It's just a blessing being able to do that because I got this blessing to help other people and bless others. It's really a blessing. That's one word I'd put it in altogether.

I wish I knew you got busy on the grill. You used to work at Wendy's, right?

I know nothing about the grill, straight up [Laughs]. I was at the cash register, and I really couldn't even run that. I was too high. I don't know nothing about no job, period. [Laughs]

One of my other favorite records is "2 Cups" with Offset and Big Sean.

[Starts dancing] That's a banger. The whole album! Damn! I'm not playing with these folks, man. Damn, what the fuck is going on?! Listen, the album is going to be the most streamed album. I told you already, it's going to be the album of the year, but it's going to be the top streamed album of the year whole year. I know for sure. Like, I know that off the top of my head. So I know we're going for the biggest of the biggest. I am the hottest artist of the fucking world.

I'm sure Drake heard that. [Laughs]

Rich The Kid. For the people and the kids.

Before I let you go, I want to congratulate you. You're having a baby boy.

Yeah, my son is on the way. Yes, sir! You know that! You know what I'm saying? Starts dancing again.

Do you and [your girlfriend] Tori Brixx have a name yet?

Nah. We don't have a name. We gon' have a name right before he comes — same week.

Last question. If you can pick one word to title this chapter in your life right now, which would that be and why?

Why magnificent?

Because life is fucking magnificent, like can you think of what magnificent would be like? Magnificent.
