Reggae Star Christopher Martin Gives Thanks For 'Life' in Feel-Good Video: Exclusive
As spring approaches, artists from around the world are celebrating the shift in weather with songs to match the season's cheerful vibes. And what better way to get into the spirit than by taking a trip to Jamaica with Christopher Martin's new video for "Life," which is exclusively premiering on Billboard today (March 19).
Directed by Dameon Gayle, the video begins with a flashback of the reggae/dancehall star playing soccer as a youth before forwarding into modern times. There, the singer kicks back at a bar while playing pool among friends (including fellow Jamaican artist Busy Signal) and enjoying a few drinks. The straightforward visual is a representation of Martin himself, who proves that he's remained humble no matter how much fame comes his way.
"Life" is the singer's latest single from his upcoming sophomore album And Then, set for a May 3 release via VP Records. Martin has previously released singles "Bun Fi Bun," "Come Back" and "Can’t Dweet Again." And Then follows Martin’s Big Deal debut, which peaked at No. 3 on Billboard's Reggae Albums Chart in 2017.
“'Life' to me is an important song. It’s an up-beat record with a good message and It’s actually the story of my life," Martin tells Billboard. "The song outlines how I was raised, my background, and where I came from. I’m thankful for my journey and how it has brought me to a position in life where I have become a better person and can give back. In the song I say 'Life is the most expensive thing' and I feel it should be treated as such and cherished. The video was good vibes, it was good to have my brother Busy Signal [on set]. We just wanted a simple video that captured the message, showing the simplicity in life and just hanging out.”
