Jazzy Amra

Wyclef's new protegèe, Jazzy Amra, is ready to burst onto the scene under the tutelage of the legendary hyphenate. Today (Feb. 1), the vivacious songstress premieres her six-track debut album AMRA, with an executive-producer credit from Jean and Madeline Nelson.

Highlighted by uptempo earworms such as "Waste of Time" and "You Got Me," Amra is poised to flourish in 2019 with her dulcet vocals and innate writing abilities. "My inspiration while writing and recording my album was my every day life," she tells Billboard. "Through the music, I wanted people to get to know me and see the truth about what I have gone through. Good and bad."

Jean -- whose resume includes collaborations with Beyoncé and Shakira -- also has effusive praise for Amra. "What drew me to work with Jazzy I would say is the same thing that drew me to work with the likes of Lauryn Hill, the likes of Beyonce [and] Mary J. Blige," Jean tells Billboard. "As a church boy, I'm inspired by what I call "raw talents." So being someone that was a choir director in a church, the gift to the choir is when you can actually find that artist that can sing that lead and make people feel something."
